A lift check valve, also known as a piston check valve or lift non-return valve, is a type of check valve used in piping systems to allow the flow of fluid in one direction while preventing backflow in the opposite direction. It operates based on the lifting action of a disk or piston in response to the fluid flow.

2. Disk or Piston: The lift check valve has a disk or piston inside the body that moves vertically (lifts) in response to fluid flow. When the fluid flows in the correct direction, the disk or piston is pushed upward, allowing the fluid to pass through the valve.

3. Spring (Optional): Some lift check valves include a spring to assist in closing the valve quickly when the fluid flow is reversed, preventing backflow.

4. Seat: The disk or piston has a matching seat where it makes contact when the valve is closed. The seat forms a seal that prevents fluid from flowing backward.

5. Inlet and Outlet Ports: The lift check valve has two ports, an inlet, and an outlet, allowing fluid to flow through in one direction only.

How the Lift Check Valve Works:

When the fluid flows in the desired direction (forward flow), it exerts pressure on the disk or piston, pushing it upward against the force of gravity (or spring, if present). This lifting action allows the fluid to pass through the valve with minimal resistance.

When the fluid flow is reversed (backflow), the disk or piston is forced against the seat, creating a tight seal that prevents the fluid from flowing backward. This action prevents backflow and protects upstream equipment from potential damage caused by the reverse flow.

Lift check valves are commonly used in various industries, including water supply systems, oil and gas, petrochemical, and process industries. They are suitable for applications where backflow prevention is critical, and where the flow reversal may cause damage to the system or affect the process.

It's essential to select the correct size, material, and type of lift check valve based on the specific requirements of the application, including the flow rate, pressure, and the type of fluid being handled. Regular maintenance and inspection are crucial to ensuring the proper functioning of the lift check valve and its reliability in preventing backflow.
